In some townships across States and Regions, terrorists motivated by a radical ideology that views “anyone with differing views is an enemy” are conducting violent assaults and assassinations. Their targets are administrative officials and innocent civilians who do not support their terrorist acts. Using firearms and knives, these terrorists are committing brutal assassinations after accusing them of “spies, informants or decoys”. This strategy is intended to instill fear among peaceable civilians and create a pervasive sense of dread within these communities.
Since they are committing such terrorist acts, on 20 January 2025 at 5:10 AM, a report stated that a man was injured by gunfire in Kyaung Kone Village, Letpadan Township of Bago Region. When security personnel promptly arrived at the scene for further investigation, it was discovered that the victim was U Ohn Thein (60 years old), a 100-household elder and resident of the village. The incident occurred when U Ohn Thein was riding his motorcycle to the house of U Tin Aye, who is the resident of the same village. While travelling on the village’s main road, two so-called PDF terrorists approached on a motorcycle and opened fire on him before fleeing. As a result, U Ohn Thein sustained gunshot injuries and was transported to Zee Phyu Kone Station Hospital for medical treatment, it is reported.
Similarly, at 9:30 AM, a report stated that a man was shot dead near Ma Kyi Kan Village, Myitthar Township of Mandalay Region. When security personnel promptly arrived at the scene for further investigation, it was discovered that the victim was U Sal Myint (65 years old), a resident of the village. The investigation revealed that the victim was travelling in a vehicle from his village to Myitthar Town along the Myingyan-Yewun Road. Upon reaching a public rest house near the village, three so-called PDF terrorists approached on a motorcycle and opened fire on him. As a result, the victim died on the spot, it is reported.
Likewise, at 10:15 AM, a report stated that a man was shot dead in Mi-Au Aung Village, Taungwingyi Township of Magway Region. When security personnel promptly arrived at the scene for further investigation, it was discovered that the victim was U Thein Soe (53 years old), a sub-village in-charge and resident of the village. The investigation revealed that while the victim was at his house, two so-called PDF terrorists arriving by motorcycle, and opened fire on him. As a result, the victim died on the spot. Additionally, the terrorists took MMK 25 lakhs, a motorbike, and a mobile phone from his house, it is reported.
Security personnel are persistently taking necessary measures to identify and apprehend the terrorists responsible for the killings and assassinations of administrative officials and innocent civilians in the aforementioned cases, it is reported.
